             are

                       "CHQ LEVELS" ?

Children's HeadQuarters (CHQ) uses levels in which you decide or take one

of our placements tests to determine where you are on our stairway to become a lifelong learner. Each level (1-5) continues to build upon the previous level to fully prepare you for your journey. We begin with Level 1 which is our introductory level to learning and it climbs through our last level 5 which is mastering all that the scholar has learned and applying it in a multitude of ways. Each of our levels come with instruction including Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Life Skills and Creative Arts with the option to add Foreign Language.

Level 1
Day Care Center

Level 1 curriculum focuses on:

​

  • Recognize, name, and write all 26 letters of the alphabet (Uppercase and Lowercase)

  • Pronounce correct sound(s) that each letter makes

  • Read and recognize around 30 High frequency words

  • Write simple CVC words and simple sentences

  • Recognize, write, order, and count objects

  • Add and subject small numbers

  • Name and describe common shapes

  • Identify, sort, and classify objects by color, size, and shape

  • Your scholar will also develop and build self-confidence creating a lifelong learner. We will celebrate together as your scholar takes their first steps towards reading, vocabulary expands, and they begin writing.

Level 2

Level 2 Curriculum focuses on:

​

  • Recognize punctuation and other features of a sentence

  • Recognize digraphs

  • Understands how an “e” located at the end of a words changes vowel sounds

  • Introduction to syllables

  • Introduction to words that have “irregular” spellings

  • Differentiate between fiction and non-fiction

  • Begins reading one and two-syllable words

  • Begins reading words with common prefixes and suffixes

  • Begins reading comprehension and details of a text (Main purpose and who, what, where, when, why, and how)

  • Begins reading at appropriate speed and with expression

  • Compares characters and events

  • Understands the common features of a book – headings, table of contents, and glossaries

  • Begins writing narratives, opinions, and informational pieces

  • Revises and edits writing

  • Uses digital tools with the aid of a teacher or Learning Mentor to publish writing

  • Research topics for shared, group, or class writing projects

  • Count, read, write, and order sequential numbers

  • Compare numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to signs

  • Add and subtract whole numbers up to 3 digits

  • Complete multistep addition and subtraction problems

  • Introduction to place value

  • Introduction to shapes and classify them according to the number and shape of faces

  • Compare the length, weight, and volume of objects

  • Measure small objects using inches and centimeters

  • Telling time (Minutes, hours in a day, days in a month, etc)

  • Days of the week and months of the year

  • Introduction to money

  • Life cycles and observable creatures

  • Human body (Basic introduction to health, bones, muscles, and organs)

  • Seasons

  • Solar system

  • Your scholar will also continue to develop and build self-confidence creating a lifelong learner. We will celebrate together as your scholar takes their next steps towards understanding more complicated ideas like cause and effect, using language to express emotions and ideas, and ways to express themselves and develop their own point of view to prevent from being easily influenced by peers.

Level 4 Curriculum focuses on:

  • Uses direct quotes from texts to explain and prove ideas about the reading

  • Read a variety of genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama

  • Uses details from the text to summarize, identify the main idea or theme, compare characters, and make inferences

  • Uses a variety of media and formats, including video and audio to further enhance understanding of a topic or text

  • Participate in class and group discussions expressing the ideas and skills learned

  • Practices a variety of vocabulary skills

  • Understands and gains the ability of explaining figurative language in a text

  • Interpret and understand metaphors

  • Identify narrator’s point of view and how it affects the content of a text

  • Compares multiple perspectives on the same event, idea, or theme

  • Uses technology and digital media to further their understanding of a topic and to find answers to their questions

  • Gathers information about a topic from multiple sources

  • Write opinion pieces which includes introduction and conclusion, a logical and clear structure, and evidence that supports the author’s opinion

  • Writes informational pieces that explain topics using details and an introduction and conclusion

  • Writes narrative pieces that introduce and describe an event in a logical way

  • Uses details such as dialogue, thoughts and emotions and provide a conclusion

  • Plans, revises, and edits their writing

  • Thinks of ways to approach their writing and different perspectives when writing

  • Writes using more complex vocabulary and about more complex content

  • Writes a variety of genres for a variety of audiences

  • Writes structured and well-organized opinion, research, and informative pieces that support claims and evidence based on credible texts and resources

  • Writes well structured narratives (both true and fiction)

  • Uses technology with little to no supervision to publish writing, research and communicate with others

  • Types at least two pages of texts in one sitting

  • Uses multiple sources to write and create a research project

  • Understanding the solar system

  • Learning about the digestive system

  • Introduction to the chemical properties of elements

  • Using the scientific method when completing experiments

  • Learning about citizenship

  • Analyzing the causes, implications and different cultures of the colonies and people who founded them

  • Evolution of our government and its branches

  • Your scholar will also continue to develop and build self-confidence creating a lifelong learner. We will celebrate together as your scholar takes their next steps towards understanding more complicated ideas like cause and effect, using language to express emotions and ideas, and ways to express themselves and develop their own point of view to prevent from being easily influenced by peers. By this level, they have developed the ability to understand different points of views

Level 3 Curriculum focuses on:

  • Becoming more independent readers

  • Read multi-syllable and irregular spelling words

  • Reads with appropriate pace, accuracy, expression, and understanding

  • Self corrects mistakes and re-reads when necessary

  • Talks about and answers questions about a passage using specific examples form the text

  • Reads a variety of texts – fiction, non-fiction, fables, and poetry

  • Differentiate between literal and non-literal text such as metaphors and analogies

  • Uses context to determine the meaning of words

  • Expressed point of view about characters or a text

  • Uses specific examples from the text to explain a characters’ motivations, main events and ideas about the text

  • Understands and explains the differences between narrative prose, drama, and poetry

  • Identifies and refers to the different parts of poems and plays, such as verses, settings, and characters

  • Using terms to make connections while reading

  • Writes a variety of texts including opinion pieces, narrative pieces, and informative pieces that have an introduction, conclusions, reasons, and facts to support an opinion

  • Plans, revises, and edits their writing

  • Using more advanced digital tools under little guidance to publish and interact with others

  • Begins to type with beginner accuracy and ability

  • Takes notes and do research for projects

  • Introduction to cursive writing

  • Learn to subtract two and three-digit numbers, regrouping, and measurement

  • Advanced multiplication and division

Teacher and Student

Level 5 Curriculum focuses on:

​

  • Provides an objective summary of a text

  • Analyzes texts using the text as evidence to support the analysis

  • Makes inferences about texts and uses evidence from the text to support the inferences.  

  • Understands, tracks the progress of, and summarizes the main idea of a text, using evidence from the text.

  • Analyzes the impact of specific language and word choice used in a text

  • Compares and contrasts the different perspectives and points of views in a text.

  • Compares different versions such as a stage version, film, or audio version of a text, paying specific attention to the way in which elements such as lighting, scenery, or audio sounds affect the message of the text

  • Compares a historical account of an event, person, or place with a historical fiction text about the same period.

  • Analyzes texts that include conflicting information on the same topic and decipher when those are due to conflicting facts or interpretations

  • Writes arguments that present clear reasons and relevant evidence and include introductions, opposing claims, logical and orderly presentations of reasons and evidence, use of appropriate transition words and phrases, and concluding sentences

  • Writes structured and well-organized opinion, research, and informative pieces that use supporting claims and evidence that are based on credible texts and resources

  • Writes well-structured narratives (both true and fiction) that include a narrator, characters, and a point of view, descriptive detail and sensory language to describe characters, settings and experiences, dialogue and a conclusion that is connected and builds on the narrative

  • Plans, revises, and edits writing, specifically with guidance from teachers and peers, focusing specifically on trying new approaches and making sure the writing has a purpose and appeals to its audience

  • Works with others and uses technology and other ways to cite sources

  • Works on multiple, short research projects that answer a specific question and cite multiple sources, while gathering additional questions for later research

  • Explore general life, earth, and physical science topics using the scientific method

  • Earth science (Effects of weather and climate, properties and uses of water, atmosphere, air pressure, phases of the moon, and ecology)

  • Physical science (Newton’s law of motion, structure of atoms and molecules, the Periodic Table, and elements and compounds

  • World History such as the Renaissance

  • American History such as the The Great Depression

  • Geography including the history, foods, and customs of different areas.

  • Your scholar will also continue to develop and build self-confidence creating a lifelong learner. We will celebrate together as your scholar takes their next steps towards understanding more complicated ideas like cause and effect, using language to express emotions and ideas, and ways to express themselves and develop their own point of view to prevent from being easily influenced by peers.
